Switzerland’s largest companies recruit their cybersecurity leaders from everywhere. Of the seven below, three are Americans who came to Switzerland through military intelligence and corporate security careers, one began as a secure card engineer for Mastercard in London before serving in the Greek Army, and one has held the CISO title at four major international companies. The other two built their careers almost entirely at home, one as a lawyer who moved from the federal data protection office into banking security, the other as a teenage IT apprentice who founded an online community before joining the national telecom. Together they protect reinsurance, pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, banking, and insurance.
Simon Jenner – CTO & CSO, Swiss Re
Simon Jenner has held the CISO title at four major organizations across three countries. He began his career in technology startups before spending more than 12 years as CISO at UBS. He then served as CISO at J.P. Morgan in London and New York, at Booking.com in Amsterdam, and at National Grid in the UK. Jenner joined Swiss Re in March 2022 as Chief Technology and Security Officer, taking responsibility for both technology and security at the reinsurer.
Tim Ehrhart – CISO, Roche
Tim Ehrhart describes himself as someone who likes solving puzzles, breaking things, and finding needles in haystacks. He started as an analyst in the U.S. Army in 1999, then worked as an analyst for CACI and for the Department of Defense in Heidelberg, Germany. He joined Roche in Basel in 2013 to lead global security monitoring and incident response, a role he held for nine years. He has led cybersecurity for all of Roche as CISO since July 2022. Originally from the United States, Ehrhart has spent the past 25 years in Germany and Switzerland. He has spoken at Black Hat on the real-world dilemmas CISOs face and on how geopolitical tensions fuel cyber conflict and reshape enterprise risk.
Marco Wyrsch – Head of Group Security & CSO, Swisscom
Marco Wyrsch started as an IT apprentice with the Canton of Lucerne in 2000. The following year he founded pocketpc.ch, building a large German-language online community and launching his own IT products, and he ran the company as CEO for a decade while working as a software engineer on mobile applications and computer vision. He joined Swisscom in 2011 as an ICT security consultant, then led its security consulting team before spending seven years as CISO for the Business Customers division. Wyrsch has served as Head of Group Security and Chief Security Officer since January 2023. He holds a bachelor’s degree in software systems and a Master of Advanced Studies in information security.
Martin Hofer – CISO, PostFinance
Martin Hofer is a lawyer by training, with a law degree from the University of Zurich and an LL.M. in information law from the University of Oldenburg. He worked as a research assistant at the University of Fribourg, then as a data protection specialist at the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner, and briefly as managing director of LT Lawtank. He joined PostFinance in 2009 as Data Protection Officer and became CISO in November 2012, a role he has now held for 14 years. His remit covers cybersecurity, payment fraud, business continuity and resilience, security engineering, and physical security.
Abraham Sidiropoulos – CISO Switzerland & BISO, UBS
Abraham Sidiropoulos began as a senior software engineer in Mastercard’s secure card operating systems group in London. After military service in the Greek Army, he spent more than five years in IT security and development consulting at PwC Greece, followed by information security roles at Intracom Telecom and Flawless Money, and a return to PwC Greece managing risk assurance. He joined UBS in Zurich in 2013 as a technology auditor in Group Internal Audit, then moved into technology risk management, eventually co-heading it for group operations and technology and later for wealth management. Since December 2025 he has served as Managing Director, CISO for Switzerland, and BISO, also heading identity and access management and data security.
Paige H. Adams – Group CISO, Zurich Insurance Group
Paige H. Adams spent 14 years as a Department of Defense cryptologic technician, collecting and translating foreign-language communications and leading teams on Navy airborne, surface, and subsurface platforms. He then served more than 11 years as a Navy information warfare officer. At Navy Cyber Defense Operations Command he led a 125-person team covering intrusion detection, forensics, and malware analysis for an IT infrastructure supporting more than 530,000 Navy personnel. Adams joined Zurich in 2014 as Global Head of Cyber Response near Chicago, then became CISO for Zurich North America. As VP for Cyber Security he created Zurich’s Cyber Fusion Center for round-the-clock global coverage, and he has served as Group CISO in Zurich since February 2018. He was named AITP’s 2020 Chicago CISO of the Year.
Titus Melnyk – Head of Information Compliance and Security, Novartis
Titus Melnyk spent more than two decades in the automotive industry before moving into life sciences. He started as a network systems engineer at AlliedSignal Safety Restraint Systems, then worked as a senior information security analyst and global security architect at DaimlerChrysler. At Chrysler and later Fiat Chrysler Automobiles he led enterprise information security, eventually running the program for North America and Asia and aligning the company’s cyber defenses globally. Melnyk joined Novartis in Basel in 2016 as Head of IT Security Operations and Technology and has led information compliance and security since October 2019.
A Crossroads for Security Talent
Switzerland’s security leadership reflects the country’s role as a crossroads. Ehrhart, Adams, and Melnyk came from the United States, two of them from long military intelligence careers. Jenner brought CISO experience from London, New York, and Amsterdam, and Sidiropoulos moved from London and Athens into Zurich banking. Wyrsch and Hofer show the other path, one building a career at Swisscom from an apprenticeship and a startup, the other carrying a lawyer’s view of data protection into a CISO role he has held for 14 years. Swiss firms trade on trust and precision, and they have assembled security leaders from many countries to protect both.
